RealogicWorks Rapidly Develops eLearning Modules

eLearning Initiative
A mid-west utility company hired RealogicWorks to rapidly develop eLearning modules in support of their Mobile Information Management System (MIMS) Field Sketch application. MIMS streamlines utility fieldwork by delivering all the information needed – such as GIS, SAP, Maximo, CGI, Oracle – to complete any scheduled or unscheduled task using smart forms and friendly mapping.

The company’s previous eLearning modules were insufficient based upon the user feedback, ROI, and a lack of digital adoption amongst field workers. Our learning consultants were tasked with creating View Only eLearning modules and Refresher eLearning modules based upon current internal documentation.

Business Objectives:

  • Conduct a needs analysis and gather business requirements to increase user adoption and satisfy stakeholder expectations

  • Develop engaging eLearning and video courses, quick reference guides, and knowledge check quizzes

  • Periodically conduct learning evaluations to measure the learner’s reaction and value-add of the eLearning modules

  • Implement agile methodologies and our Iterative Development Process (IDP) (refer to Figure 1 below) to meet weekly deliverable deadlines and user expectations

Development Strategy and Results
RealogicWorks leveraged a comprehensive needs analysis, user feedback, business success metrics, and our IDP for a positive impact on the learner experience. Our learning consultants gathered background information and supporting materials to design mockups including a mix of layouts and interactions. By utilizing our process, the L&D team collected feedback from users and stakeholders to continuously update prototypes to vastly exceed expectations. Upon completing the third prototype, our learning consultants received stakeholder approval and delivered an eLearning course containing knowledge checks, a video course, and supporting job aids (handouts).

Key Takeaways

  • Design and user experience (UX) are imperative for user engagement, the learning experience, and employee development

  • Microlearning empowers learners and increases productivity by focusing on relevant content

  • Implementing agile methodologies, user feedback, and our IDP encourages collaboration between learning consultants, the client, and users to quickly develop prototypes
