Embracing the Cloud Transition

Cloud Migration Considerations

For most businesses considering cloud migration, the initiative is filled with vast potential – scalability, flexibility, reliability, cost-effectiveness, improved performance, and simpler, faster deployment. However, the cloud platform comes with considerable challenges, including improving availability and latency, auto-scale orchestration, connections, effectively scaling the development process, and addressing cloud security. All variables must be considered, analyzed, and compared to business needs to ensure the transformation is a proper fit.

Migration Objective

A major US Automotive Company struggled with manually executing operational tasks and optimizing DevOps workflows. The Company required a custom cloud portal to deploy to all IT employees enabling the automation of operational tasks and DevOps optimization.

Migration Strategy and Results

By developing the client’s custom cloud portal, we created a development environment to automate all operational tasks (e.g., creating a Dev-Environment, Creating Databases, etc.) for all users. Our Team developed the self-service portal and maintained an operational support structure to provide production support and ongoing services.

The self-service portal accelerated the provisioning of IT resources required to develop software – end users can now perform actions without an intermediary or administrator, significantly decreasing downtime. Automating operational tasks saved the Company approximately 10,000 hours by implementing this self-service portal and DevOps optimization.

Key Takeaways

  • Business needs and technology fit should be periodically reassessed.

  • Cloud ROI ultimately depends on how your business measures ROI.

  • Self-service portals and automation are key to user satisfaction.
